Astera's Vision
Astera’s vision is to empower data professionals with accessible data management tools that offer the functionality and flexibility to integrate data, data warehousing capabilities, and data profiling and validation features in a single, unified, no-code, easy-to-use platform.
The Astera Story
In 2010, Astera was a consulting firm for clients in the mortgage banking sector. Our software had a component that allowed customers to bring together data from different sources. When the mortgage sector crashed, one customer came to Astera and asked us to expand that component into a data management software that could allow them to manage their data in one centralized location. With that, Astera was born again.
Astera’s main goal was to make this software easy for everyone to access and use, since many of the people who needed to access the data did not have technical backgrounds. Because of this, we developed a no-code, drag-and-drop interface that is still used in all of our products today, from our data warehouse builder to our unstructured data extraction tool to our API designer.
Astera is dedicated to creating products that allow professionals to skip the hassle of data busywork and let their data shine like a star at the forefront of their company’s innovation. After all, Astera comes from the Greek word Aster, meaning ‘star’.

Ibrahim Surani
Founder & CEO
As the CEO and Founder of Astera, Ibrahim Surani is responsible for spearheading Astera’s corporate strategy, overseeing management, and directing the long-term objectives of the company. He has over 20 years of experience in recruiting, building and leading high-productivity, agile software teams in a variety of areas including enterprise systems, data warehousing, data and application integration, financial services, and hospital information systems.
Jay Mishra
COO
Jay Mishra has over 20 years of experience in software engineering. As the Chief Operating Officer, Jay leads product development for Astera’s flagship product, Centerprise Data Integrator. Jay has several years of hands-on software product development experience and expertise in managing engineering teams in technology, product vision, and go-to-market strategies. He has committed himself to excellence in data architecture improvements and developing data centric software solutions. Jay holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the Virginia Tech and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computing from the Indian Institute of Technology.
Munira Lalani
Vice President Sales
Munira Lalani has over a decade of experience in sales, account management, and leadership, but her biggest strength is forging relationships with customers. Munira has both technical and business level understanding of customers’ needs. She has worked with customers all over the world and has a sterling track record in SaaS enterprise sales. Munira holds a BA from Cal State Fullerton, College of Business and Economics, where she specialized in finance. She also holds a certificate from the Anderson School of Management at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Mike A. O'Quinn
CTO
Mike A. O’Quinn has been with Astera for over 15 years. Mike is responsible for leading the product development and IT departments, managing Astera’s award winning technical support team, and working closely with customers to help them build customized solutions. As part of this role, Mike handles customer feedback and queries, and makes sure any questions or comments are dealt with effectively. Mike holds a BS from the University of California, Riverside in Computer Science.
