Establish Seamless Connectivity to Oracle Database Using Astera Centerprise’s Built-in Connector
Today, as crucial enterprise data is dispersed across multiple locations, Astera is constantly increasing its range of out-of-the-box connectors to integrate scattered insights across enterprises. With Oracle regularly ranking as the leading database in the world, the lack of a powerful Oracle database connector can prove challenging for businesses both small and large that leverage the solution. Keeping this in mind, Astera Software has launched a new out-of-the-box connector for Oracle Database allowing users to extract and load to Oracle database at high volumes with maximum efficiency.
Read on to find out everything you need to know about Astera Centerprise’s new Oracle connector.
Why Oracle Database?
On top of that, Oracle offers both vertical and horizontal scalability, which is just one of the reasons why it’s used by enterprises of all sizes for a variety of tasks including transaction processing and data warehousing. It’s this adaptability and speed which makes it a necessary addition to our rapidly growing list of connectors.
Here are some reasons why enterprises use Oracle:
- Scalability: The Oracle database is designed to meet the changing requirements of businesses as they scale up.
- Platform-agnostic: Oracle’s database is not limited to a certain platform. This movability makes it a great choice for enterprises using multiple platforms.
- Maximum Availability Architecture: Low downtime is one of the most important features of the Oracle database which add to its popularity.
Oracle database is incredibly popular in financial institutions and the banking and insurance sectors and is used by leading companies including JPMorgan Chase and PNC. The database’s robustness, availability, and speed make it a great choice for sensitive and volatile financial information. Oracle can also be queried relatively easily and can be integrated with multiple platforms to process data without any delays.
With Astera Centerprise’s out-of-the-box connector, you can connect to the Oracle database as both a source and a destination to run all your ETL jobs seamlessly.
Create a Replica of Your Oracle Database
As businesses continue to use data from more sources than ever before, data integration, migration, and replication have also become even more important. With Astera Centerprise, you can easily migrate or create replicas of your Oracle database in the popular cloud and on-prem databases including MySQL, Redshift, Vertica, and even Snowflake.
The user guide below shows how to connect to the Oracle database:
Using Oracle database as a source in Astera Centerprise is very straightforward. All you need to do is drag a Database Table Source object on to the designer and configure the database.
Here, Oracle is selected as the Data Provider and the user id and password are entered.
Once you are connected to the database, we can select the table we wish to extract data from. Here, we also have the option to define whether we wish to read all the data in the table in one go (Full Load) or read the data incrementally based on certain metrics.
As the name suggests, Full Load is used to extract all of the records present in a table regardless of whether or not they are already present in the destination. Conversely, selecting the Incremental Load option ensures that only new records or records which have been modified are extracted. This reduces the time spent in extraction and also uses fewer resources. That said, Incremental Load can be more complex than Full Load which is why you should only select the right option based on your business requirements.
We can also decide whether we wish to create partitions in the table and trim whitespaces at the start and end of each record.
In the example above, we have selected the HR_EMPLOYEES table as our source and have selected Full Load as our Read Strategy.
In case both the source and destination database provider are the same, you can also leverage the database’s native processing capabilities to ELT data with Astera Centerprise. With ELT, you can also save time involved in the data staging process and decide which data needs to be transformed after it is present in the destination table.
Choose from 40+ Sources to Load Data to Oracle Database in Seconds
Oracle’s scalability and availability make it a top choice for enterprises looking to create a backup of their data. Here’s how you can use Astera Centerprise to connect to the Oracle database load high data volumes to it without any delays.
Next, you will select Oracle as the data provider for the destination object. Once the destination object is configured, you will be asked whether you wish to populate an existing table or create a new one. In this example, we are creating a new table and naming it Orders_Cleaned so that important data in any existing table is not overwritten.
There are a few other options on this screen which allow us to define how we want data to be loaded to the destination table.
Astera Centerprise’s Job Scheduler and Monitor also make automation a breeze. All you need to do is define the intervals or triggers for the execution of your dataflow and let Centerprise take care of the rest.
Since you may need to load data to the Oracle database for several reasons, Astera Centerprise also comes complete with multiple Database Write Strategies to ensure that your data is transferred efficiently, accurately, and quickly. The Database Write Strategies, namely Data-Driven, Database Diff Processor, SCD, and Source Diff Processor, can be leveraged to load specific Oracle data based on the requirements of your use case.
